Ngo for Disabled on World Leprosy Day |AGWO

Ngo for disabled

India is one of the major countries with the world’s largest leprosy elimination program. Moreover, India is seeing success in the leprosy elimination program, but the new cases of leprosy in India are a major concern. AGWO-NGO for Disabled in today’s article will share details about Leprosy Day, the solution, and other relevant data.

Although India declared leprosy free in 2005 as a public health problem, reducing its prevalence to 0.72 per 10,000 people, However, India in 2019 is not less than a leprosy capital after 18 years of being declared leprosy-free. According to the World Health Organization, it accounts for 66% of leprosy cases in India. There are ways to cure leprosy, yet it is quite tough sometimes, especially after declaring India leprous. After this, they couldn’t pay attention to the surveillance and case-finding. As a result, the intensity of the rise in leprosy cases is very high.

AGWO, an NGO for disabled, sees a major setback for India due to the rise in leprosy cases. This disease is a major problem in developing countries. As a result, India topped this list, followed by Brazil and Indonesia. The day to create awareness about leprosy day was chosen by Raoul Follereau a French humanitarian to give tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi who had done commendable work with the people suffering from leprosy.

Mahatma Gandhi sees eliminating leprosy is the only way to make people live lifetime. Apart from treating leprosy disease his main mission was to bring these effected people to the mainstream society.  AGWO an ngo for disabledhas felt that legal discrimination these people face despite of many programs implementation of policy, is heart itching to us.
