Organization Health World:History of Female Genital Mutilation
In 1997, the WHO issued a joint statement condemning female genital mutilation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) (FGM). Numerous initiatives have been taken since then to combat Female Genital Mutilation. UNFPA and UNICEF launched the Joint Programme on Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting in 2007 to ramp up the practice’s abolition.
In 2008, WHO released a statement on the abolishment of female genital mutilation titled “Eliminating Female Genital Mutilation: An Interagency Statement” in collaboration with 9 other United Nations partners. World Health Organization in 2010 published a “Global strategy to stop health care providers from performing female genital mutilation” in collaboration with other key UN agencies and international organizations.
The United Nation General Assembly a resolution adopted, A/RES/67/14 on the elimination of female genital mutilation in 2012.Every year this day is celebrated on 6 th February to commemorate this issue.

Highlighting Issue of Female Genital Mutilation
