Women are uniquely able to overcome difficulties in life with affection and care, trying against any and all odds to better the world and protect those they love by engaging in predatory behavior. A century ago, the movements for feminist and women’s rights established. Women are still battling for their right and defending the movement’s core values in many parts of the world today. To build a just and equal society devoid of gender inequality, it is essential to defend current ideals and further their goals. Women are resilient, strong, and unbeatable. Numerous pro-women slogans that are spread across society every day, a particular day is undoubtedly necessary to recognize women’s accomplishments in all spheres of life.

Women have improved the world with their limitless strength, willpower, and faith, whether they are teachers, homemakers, economists, engineers, or pioneers. Women today are overcoming societal barriers with a strength that could break the chains of patriarchy, making them a more formidable force to contend with.

Not just one day a year, but all day must belong to women. There isn’t much to quibble with in that aim. The discrimination can vary by cast, gender, color, etc. Despite constitutional protections provided by Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, this ubiquitous issue is widespread. Measures that support and uphold gender equality included in and cover over 80% of the Indian legal system. If we talk about the global gender gap at the World Economic Forum, India ranks 135 out of 146 countries.

When we talk about women’s representation in parliament, India is far behind, which is the key factor to evaluate the development of the country. India has approximately 661 million females, or 48.39% of the total population.

Despite the fact that India has been independent for more than 75 years, the situation remains unchanged. Even some of the least developed countries, like Rawanda, have given more power to women in parliament. When we talk about the country that gave women the right to vote at first, it was New Zealand, and it is the same nation that increases women’s participation to 50%.

Only 26% women are the lawmaker that is the saddest part.  Whereas the women representation in national parliament is 26.2%, even sub Sahara African countries has women representation of above average of globe.

Even Nepal has women representation of 34 %, and Bangladesh has women representation of 21%. When we talk about the report of International Parliament Union, representation of women is only 14.44% in Lok Sabha.

Women Participation Journey in India

The 2019 election was the first in which women outnumbered men in terms of participation.

History of International Women’s Day

Women’s oppression and inequality was the subject of a continuing, critical discussion in 1908. When 15,000 women protested through New York City calling for shorter hours, higher pay, and right to vote, the requires a new way began to gain more traction. The inaugural Women’s Day was celebrated nationwide in 1909 on March 8th. Copenhagen hosted a global gathering of working women in 1910.

Clara Zetkin, the head of the Social Democratic Party of Germany’s Women’s Office, put out the concept there. March 19 marked the first celebration of International Women’s Day in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland in 1911. Women in Russia celebrated their first Women’s Day on February 23 during 1913 and 1914. Later, it determines that IWD may be observed on March 8 on a global scale. This theme highlight the 67th commission of status of women “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls” .
