World Health Association does not want this to happen to innocent people, especially children in slums. As an NGO, we are working to bring about change and promote a drug-free society. Laws against drugs in India

India has a comprehensive legal framework for controlling drugs, consisting of various laws and regulations. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 prohibits the production, possession, World Health Association and sale, and distribution of substances such as heroin, cocaine, and morphine. Section 27 of the Indian Penal Code makes it an offense to possess or consume any substance likely to harm one’s own health or others’. The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, aims to prevent illegal drug trafficking by prohibiting the production, supply, distribution, and possession of drugs.

The Border Security Force Act of 1968 authorizes the BSF to seize and confiscate contraband at international borders. Additionally, the Customs Act of 1962 enables customs officials to confiscate drugs found in imported goods. The Central Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017 imposes GST on certain goods, including drugs. Penalties for drug-related offenses range from up to one year in prison and a fine of up to INR 20,000 for personal consumption to life imprisonment and a fine of up to INR 2 lakh for trafficking.
